Strategic Communications Planning for the Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering at UW

The University of Washington’s Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering is consistently ranked among the top five in the world for the educational experiences they offer, the research they champion and their impact on the world. And they are always aiming higher, looking for ways to improve communications between their programs and the broader community.

The Allen School engaged Seven November to analyze the effectiveness of their external communications, to design values-based messaging that would resonate with key stakeholders, and to recommend strategies for communicating with their stakeholders.

Data for the Data Scientists 

Comprehensive qualitative research including stakeholder interviews with faculty, students and representatives of peer institutions; materials review and competitive messaging analysis; media coverage audit; and social media data analytics and analysis formed the foundation of a strategic messaging platform and communications strategies to reinforce the university’s position as a leader in a leading field. Knowing their target audiences are academically successful, relatively young and highly computer literate, online and one-to-one communications strategies were recommended for greatest effect.
